FlounderCraft Ltd. (formerly The Joseph M. Newcomer Co.) provides consulting, training, and development of Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista-based applications. Specialties include GUI design, system architecture and control interfaces for embedded systems, and device drivers. FlounderCraft Ltd. and its predecessor, The Joseph M. Newcomer Co., has been providing technical consulting services since 1972. In 2002, the company incorporated as FlounderCraft Ltd.

Dr. Newcomer received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie-Mellon University, and spent several years on the CMU CS faculty. He was a founding scientist of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at CMU. He has nearly 47 years of experience in developing commercial, industrial, and research applications.

Dr. Joseph M. Newcomer is a Microsoft MVP, an award presented to a fairly small group of people who help out on a volunteer basis on the Microsoft newsgroups. A collection of his articles, expanded beyond the postings on the newsgroups, is now available on his MVP essays page, as well as useful code samples.

Joseph M. Newcomer is the author of several articles on Windows programming as well as co-author of two books on Windows programming and a course in writing Windows NT Device Drivers and a course in Windows System Programming. He also is co-author of three U.S. patents on distributed information technology.

He has been an Adjunct Senior Systems Scientist at Carnegie Mellon University (2001), where he taught the Internet course in the Master of Science in E-Commerce (MSEC) program.

He also teaches courses at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. He has developed a teaching tool for explaining how a disk drive works, which you may want to build for similar instructional purposes.
